JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s new visa restrictions may have dented the country’s tourism industry, but tourism minister Derek Hanekom says UK visitor numbers are well on their way to recovery.Hanekom is currently in London for the annual World Travel Market exhibition.

He’s there to sell South Africa as a destination, to UK and European travel companies.

Hanekom says he’s confident that the recently relaxed visa rules will continue to improve tourism numbers.

Although the country’s recent student protests made headlines around the world, Hanekom believes they have not deterred  visitors.


LONDON, 04 November 2015 – While this year’s new visa restrictions seriously dented South Africa’s tourism, tourism minister Derek Hanekom says the recently relaxed rules will improve tourism numbers.

He says South Africa will remain a destination of choice for many.
